Subtitled: We went to Axbridge but it was closed. Mostly.
We ventured out on Saturday to have a recce of the so-called "Strawberry Line" cycle route for a future "Not Somer Valley Wheels" group ride. Keeping it short for Liz's sake we just did the Cheddar to Axbridge section. Very disappointing. Sufficient to say that it makes a great footpath, but that's all. A narrow dust path with an unmade access ramp and 90° blind bends a cycle path does not make. We'll sample other parts of the route another time. It can only get better.
Axbridge. What can I say? Best description is a film set for a Thomas Hardy movie but disused since about 1973.
Oh, and the middle aged couples with matching bicycles? Well, there was us with our candy coloured Bromptons, of course, and these two Airnimal folders - the gentleman of the pair checking the map for the quickest escape from Axbridge.

My opinion of Axbridge also....
I know a number of cycling couples and they all have matching bikes. Pity that my Anne doesn't ride because it means that I can't join the 'club'!!!

Skiers do it with their outfits too!
Funny you should mention matching bicycles...we have at least 2 pairs :P Raleigh Superbe/Raleigh Colt and a pair of Raleigh Twentys. No clue why they have to match, but they do.

@2whls3spds: Superbly restored bikes. One question: Where did you get the army surplus paint from?
:-)
"...army surplus paint" Well I do live adjacent to the one of if not the largest Army base in the US ;)
For years I thought that Raleigh 3 speeds only came in black. Then I dated a young lady that had a coffee brown one.
The green ones I have just happen to be what was available when the time came to purchase. FWIW I do have bikes of other colours. :D
None of those are really restorations, more like cleaned up barn finds. The exception being my Twenty, it needed some upgrades so I could ride it, like a mile high seat post.

Nothing like supporting the cycling industry with a double-purchase per couple!
