Another Symptom of "Build It and They Will Come"?

It might be my imagination but I seem to be spotting an increasing number of the so-called "traditional" upright roadster cum utility bikes around these parts.

This rather nice single speed Atlas was seen at the Midsomer Norton Farmers' Market this morning.

Guessing its age... 50-60 years old. Or more?

Or it might be even newer. Still being built today in India: www.atlascycles.co.in/

Let us hope that more infrastructure will encourage bike manufacturers to start making bikes like this again.

And while I'm here: who wouldn't want loads of bikes like this in their town?

You'd be surprised - there are any number of vociferous haters in our town. There was a particularly nasty anti-bike path letter in our local rag this week. I was tempted to write a response, but decided not to; it only encourages the poor dears.

That's new! Or newish! As you say, they're still being made and coming into the country now in increasing numbers. I see the press releases. Bring it on, I say. Plenty of people feel a kind of empathic bond with lovely traditional-style roadster bikes. Pashley in Stratford-upon-Avon is working flat out although they're rather expensive, being UK-made. I spoke to the owner (she was one of the market stall holders). She told me that she bought it recently from someone in Lyme Regis and it had been fitted with an new replacement front wheel.
