It's a waste of money, they all said.
No-one will use it, they all said.
Yeah. Right.
It's not open yet.
It's not even finished yet.
I took a dozen pictures like this one this afternoon.
But, I thought, just one will do to tell the story. (The rest weren't good enough to put up, anyway).
Up yours, naysayers.

The cambridgeshire guided busway is like this. It's incredibly smooth, and at rush hour/weekends, it's quite a busy bike route. If it weren't for the fact that riding on it is considered trespassing, and that buses will (theoretically) start using it sometime in the future, I would imagine that biking would be even more common.
In this case, they built something else, and yet the bikers still came. Imagine how widely used it would be if they had built an actual bike path...
The saga of the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway has spread far and wide. http://www.noguidedbus.com/.
Apparently, in spite of this, our esteemed masters at Bath and No Expense Spared Council are insisting that they foist a similar, much shorter (all 1.4km of it) and even more useless, white elephant upon the good people of Bath.
Ah, the Bus Rapid Transport scheme.
What's the time saving estimate for bus users again? Two minutes?
I think the phrase "missing the point" springs to mind...
There is enormous pent-up demand for cycling, and it can only be satisfied by providing conditions in which people feel safe enough.
As for the guided bus... They've not opened it yet ? I thought it was supposed to open soon after we left the country. Just how slow can progress be on such a project ?
Of course other places can build guided bus systems which are much more complex, (e.g. by following an invisible line under a normal looking, cheaper to build, road which means they have the flexibility to pull in incredibly close to bus-stops) finish them and have them running in far less time than this. I took photos and video many years ago.

Progress has stopped. It's all in the hands of lawyers now, I think. Which means (on the plus side!) I should have a convenient bus-free bike route for the rest of the summer.
Next to the busway, they've built a 'bike path' that's unpaved-- in much the same condition as the path pictured. It's all just such a shame...

have you got any information on the proposed route linking five arches greenway to chilcompton and any possible timescale for the project?
@Parf: Chilcompton extension is certainly an aspiration, and I know that Sustrans have plans but as far as I'm aware there's no actual project underway yet.
I'm visiting Radstock over the Easter weekend and was planning on cycling (with Child) to the Railway Museum in Silver Street.
Do you have any idea whether the path will be open/useable by then?
The path isn't expected to be fully open until mid-summer. The stretch from Somervale Road to Pit Road is mostly complete and useable but not officially in use
